Lesvos

Mytilene is the island's capital, with a population of 30.000. Rich and controversial in architectural heritage, Mytilene combines great mansions and churches of the late 19th century with street markets ant the Byzantine castle with it's ancient theater.

A city full of life all year round, with the ancient and modern harbor and picturesque suburbs. Located in the city we can find an Archaeological and Byzantine Museum, a museum with the work of folk painter Theofilos and the Teriant museum of modern painting. Twelve kilometers from the city of Mytilene, near the town Moria, we can find the Roman aqueduct built in the 2nd AD century. Moving further north and close to the seaside, passing through beautiful little villages, we can find the scenic town of Mantamados known for its cheeses and the fine pottery. Our next stop is Skala Sikamia, one of the most charming fishing villages.

At the nothern part of the island we find the city of Mithimna (also known as "Molyvos"), with its medieval castle and impeccably preserved architecture, the most famous tourist place on the island, declared as a preserved settlement of the state. There we can find the beautiful harbor for fishing boats and yachts, sith step stone cobbled streets, blossoming patios and major tourist - hotel infrastructure. On this coast the sea washed up many thousands years ago the head of Orpheas after the dismemberment of the women in Thrace, perhaps a message for poets tha despise women through their lyrics. Also Arion came from Mithimna, a lyric poet and musician. It was said that a dolphin listened him play his harp and came to rescue him from the wrath of the sea.

A short distance away from Molyvos, we can find the village of Petra, with its sandy beach, the beautiful mansions and the church of Virgin Mary, built on top of a huge rock. At the center of the island we find Agia Paraskevi, with its old stone manors and old stone houses. It is also known for the horse racing and the festival of Taurus, customs and festivities that are lost in the mists of time, with roots both Christian and ancient pagan. Nearby we can find the ruins of the ancient temple of Napeos Apollo, and those of an Ionian temple (3rd century BC) that was dedicated to Zeus, Hera and Dionysos. Not far from the mins is the modern town Kalloni which is famous for its sardines and mullet caught in the beautiful bay there. That Bay is Skala Kalloni with its sandy beaches.

Another village built at an altitude, at mount Olympus amongst woods of chestnut trees and gullies we finf Agiasos. A place known for its pottery, the traditional architecture and its music tradition. Moving west one finds Polichnitos, a town with nice houses with hewn stone, and to the south there is the village of Vatera with its endless beach. On the south coast of the island there is Plomari, big nice village that got rivh in the past from its olive mills, soap industry and the famous distilleries that make the famous ouzo from Plomari, following the tradition from centuries. In the smaller but secluded beautiful bay of the island, full og olive groves, we find Gera. An area with traditional villages and their seaport Perama,m with its nice old olive mills and soap industry.

At the western end of the island we find Sigri, a small fishing village with a castle of the 18th century and beautiful beaches. Near Sigri we can find the petrified forest, a unique monument of nature, aged 15 to 20 million years and a museum about it. Finally, to the south of Sigri we find the stone village Eressos, birthplace of Sapho and Theophrastus. If we cross its green plain surrounded by the majestic volcanic landscape, we vomne to the seaport Skala Eressos with its long sandy beach and its tourist infrastructure.

With its beautiful, endowed and rich in variety natural enviroment, the countless traditional stone villages, the intense history both in economic and cultural force that left us with hundreds of historical monuments and buildings, Lesvos is UNIQUE for vacations and relaxation. It is also unique for a direct contact with the ancient and modern Greece and for work or investments.

It is a pretty big island, endowed in all aspects in such a degree that there is no way any visitor will feel isolated or bores, no matter how much time they choose to spent here.
